The Yu/Burnetts
Hi! It’s Casey and Josh, now with a Matthew flavor and an extra dose, albeit a small one, of Lindsey, causing trouble in Oakland, California with our dog, Ava.
The obligatory third person bios:
Casey
Casey is a thirty-two year old Chinese American woman living in Oakland, California with her husband, Joshua, son Matthew and her dog, Ava. She is originally from New York City, and comes to Oakland via Chicago, Illinois, western Massachusetts, subsubsuburban Connecticut, and rural western Virginia. She is politically and socially liberal, would be fiscally conservative if she were arsed enough to balance her checkbook, drinks diet soda to her surprise and secret dismay, and even after having a dog as cute as Ava since October of 2004, hates picking up dog poop. Especially at 6AM in the middle of winter. In July 2006 she became a new mother to Matthew, born on Bastille Day ‘06 (The Jail Break Baby!), who is quite possibly the cutest boy ever born. In December 2008, on her late great-grandpa Powell’s birthday, Lindsey was born, and she is definitively the cutest girl ever born. It’s true – just ask her parents and grandparents.
Josh
Josh was born in Berkeley, California, and he’s clung to the idea of being from Berkeley ever since, no matter how many times he’s moved. So far, he’s lived in nine cities in fives states, and currently lives in Oakland. He attended Miramonte High School in Orinda, California, and though that was years ago, he’ll still cheerfully tell you that it was a hideous place. More recently, he has attended Diablo Valley College and Eugene Lang College, which he graduated from in May 2003 with a BA degree. Another thing Josh has always clung to is the idea that he is a writer, and although he finds it terribly annoying when people write about themselves in the third person, he is, in fact, doing so right now. Josh graduated on Mother’s Day 2007 from the University of Illinois in Chicago, with an MA in English.
Matthew
Matthew is two and a half years old. He runs and walks and charges and stomps. He loves and hates his dog Ava, hates sleeping and naptime, and loves watermelon, brussels sprouts, and “jooz” (juice). He often travels about the SF Bay Area while being strapped to a parent. He was born in Evanston, Illinois on July 14, 2006.
Lindsey
Lindsey is one month old. She sleeps (fitfully), nurses, poops, stares, farts and burps (thanks, Burnett genes) and tries to claw her eyes out occasionally. We suspect one day soon she will realize she in fact has hands and feet and will stop this self-destructive behavior. She was born in San Francisco, California on December 23, 2008. Matthew has declared her as “MINE!” and adores her to bits and pieces (and leaves bits and pieces of whatever he’s recently eaten on her head as he gives her plenty of kisses).
Ava
Ava is a pit bull/black lab mix who weighs about 60 lbs and still looks like a lab puppy, but she’s full grown. She enjoys cookies (i.e., dog biscuits), her rope, rawhide, and belly scritches. She hates buses, tunnels, St. Bernards, and men in black coats. She’s dumb but cute, like any good dog should be. She is also probably the most patient dog in the world, friends with Matthew who is the most impatient and bossy toddler in the world. We celebrate her birthday on August 1, estimate her birth year to be 2001 (I think), and we think she was born in the Chicagoland area somewhere. We adopted her in October of 2004.
