Matthew by the numbers
Matthew is…
- 2 and a half years old
- 2 sessions into speech therapy (and is starting to understand some sign language, which is neat!)
- 6 months away from aging out of early intervention and if his language hasn’t improved, his care transfers to the local school district, which for some reason makes me worried
- 42.4 lbs. I kid you not.
- Growing out of 4T tops and pants and into 5T comfortably
- 1 great big brother – he kisses and hugs his little sister and is very possessive (”MINE!”)
Somewhere around the time Lindsey was born, Matthew seems to have gained 20 lbs and 10 inches and is such a big little boy. We go to the doctor’s on Monday for his 2.5 year check up and I am curious to see how much he has grown. He loves the doctor’s. He is also totally in puffy heart love with his speech therapist, Lauren. Cries inconsolably when she leaves.
Still loves his mama’s cuddles, which is really what’s important!

Hey Casey,
Diego has been in ECI speech therapy here in Texas as well. Just “graduated” a couple of weeks ago. He turns 3 at the end of this month and they aren’t referring him to the school district because his speech is finally appropriate to his age (a year ago he wasn’t making eye contact and could only say 4-5 words).
My biggest worry about going from ECI to the school district was that while the ECI therapists would visit him in daycare, we would have been in charge of getting him to appointments at the school. We didn’t have any luck getting services for Maria through the school. They just told us she was “normal for a bilingual child” without acknowledging that she wasn’t bilingual except to say that she didn’t qualify for bilingual services. In Texas she qualifies for pre-K because of her time in foster care, but we couldn’t arrange the transportation for a 3-hour day. Why is the school system STILL set up only for stay-at-home Moms?
We thought Diego was big (37 lbs) but Matthew takes the cake! Diego has the same t-shirt by the way. Hooray Target!
